Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr. Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday chaired the Counter-Financing of Terrorism Inter-Ministerial Committee meeting aimed at evaluating Kenya’s exposure to terrorism financing and accelerating the implementation of national obligations in this area.
Speaking at the meeting, CS Murkomen highlighted that terrorism remains a significant threat to international peace and security.
He noted that Kenya’s large economy, high integration with global financial systems, and strategic geographic location make the country vulnerable to terror-related activities and financing schemes.
“This morning, I chaired the Counter-Financing of Terrorism Inter-Ministerial Committee to assess our country’s terrorism financing risks and fast-track the implementation of our counter-financing obligations,” CS Murkomen said.

The meeting was attended by senior government officials, including Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Central Bank Governor Dr. Kamau Thugge, Principal Administrative Secretary for Internal Security Jacob Narengo, Director-General of the Financial Reporting Centre Saitoti Maika, and Director-General of Immigration Services Evelyn Cheluget.
The committee is tasked with strengthening inter-agency coordination to detect, prevent, and mitigate financing channels used to support terrorist activities, ensuring Kenya remains aligned with international standards on countering terrorism financing.
