Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has officially nominated Mohamed Amin, the Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), as Kenya’s candidate for the INTERPOL Executive Committee, representing the African region.
The nomination, announced on Friday during the 11th Regional Centre on Small Arms and Light Weapons (RECSA) Council meeting in Nairobi, marks a strategic bid to amplify Africa’s voice in shaping global security policies.
The elections are slated to take place during the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly in Marrakech, Morocco, from November 24 to 27, 2025.
CS Murkomen described Amin’s candidacy as both a national achievement and a continental opportunity.
“Kenya’s win will provide an opportunity to champion Africa’s perspectives and priorities at the highest level of global policing,” he said, urging RECSA member states to rally behind the nomination.
The INTERPOL Executive Committee plays a critical role in guiding the organization’s strategic direction.
It is tasked with supervising the implementation of General Assembly resolutions, monitoring the work of the INTERPOL Secretariat, and ensuring that global law enforcement efforts remain inclusive and effective.
If elected, Amin would serve as Africa’s voice in the committee, advancing the continent’s concerns ranging from cross-border crime and terrorism to cybercrime and corruption.
His position would also facilitate stronger collaboration between African security agencies and their global counterparts, while advocating for more capacity-building and intelligence-sharing initiatives across the region.
Mohamed Amin, who has over three decades of experience in law enforcement, is recognized for his expertise in criminal investigations, counter-terrorism, and international police cooperation.
He has led numerous high-profile investigations, represented Kenya at global security forums, and previously testified at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
He holds a Master’s degree in Criminology and has been honoured with top national awards, including the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS), and the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW).
As DCI Director, he also heads INTERPOL’s Eastern Africa bureau, where he has implemented reforms focused on ethics, modernization, and enhanced intelligence sharing.
Amin is widely respected both locally and internationally for his integrity, leadership, and his strong advocacy for community-based policing.
If successful, his election would mark a significant milestone for Kenya and the wider African region, positioning the continent to have a stronger influence in shaping global security and law enforcement priorities.
