Kindiki Highlights Sh152 Billion Road Projects and Other Developments in Kiambu

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has outlined a series of Government development projects being implemented in Kiambu County, including roads, fresh produce markets, affordable housing, electricity connectivity and irrigation.

Kindiki said the Government had prioritised the tarmacking of 1,656 kilometres of roads across Kiambu County at an estimated cost of Sh152 billion.

He said 368 kilometres of the roads had already been completed at a cost of Sh20 billion, while the Government continues to work on other sections.

“Apart from the immensely consequential Sh200 billion Rironi-Mau Summit dual carriageway, this administration has prioritised the tarmacking of 1,656 kilometres of roads in Kiambu County at a cost of Sh152 billion,” Kindiki said.

The Deputy President said the road projects were aimed at improving connectivity and facilitating the movement of people and goods across the county.

On markets, Kindiki said 29 of the nearly 600 fresh produce markets being constructed across the country were located in Kiambu County.

He cited the Nyambari Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) market in Lari, which he inspected during his tour of the county.

“The value of markets, affordable housing and student hostel accommodation projects nationally is about Sh800 billion, including Sh52 billion worth of projects within Kiambu County,” he said.

Kindiki also highlighted progress on affordable housing in the county, saying the Lari Affordable Housing Project had reached 30 per cent completion.

The project is expected to deliver 752 housing units to residents at a cost of Sh2.2 billion.

The Deputy President said farmers in Kiambu had also benefited from Government interventions, including reduced prices of fertiliser, seeds and sexed semen.

He added that farmers were recording improved returns from coffee and milk production.

On healthcare, Kindiki said about 1.5 million Kiambu residents had enrolled in the medical insurance scheme administered by the Social Health Authority (SHA), against a target population of 2.4 million.

The Government is also implementing Last Mile Electricity Connectivity projects worth Sh432 million across the county, which are expected to connect an additional 2,500 homes to electricity.

Kindiki further said the Sh500 million Escarpment Irrigation Project was nearing completion and would support commercial farming in the area.

The Deputy President made the remarks after inspecting road and market projects before addressing residents of Nyambari in Lari.

He used the meeting to update residents on the progress of Government projects and programmes being implemented in the area.

Kindiki was accompanied by Lari MP Mburu Kahangara, Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, Kiambaa MP Njuguna Kawanjiku and Kabete MP Githua Wamachukuru, among other leaders.
