Man arrested in Narok after woman found murdered in Nakuru apartment


Police have arrested a man in Narok in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old woman whose body was found in a pool of blood inside a rented room in Baraka, Nakuru County.

The deceased, identified as Serena Tonkei, was found dead inside a room at Istanbul Apartments within Baraka on Friday night.

The incident was reported by the caretaker of the apartment, who informed police that a person had been murdered in one of the rented rooms.

Police officers who visited the scene found Tonkei’s body lying in a pool of blood. She had sustained a deep cut on the left side of her chin, believed to have been inflicted using a sharp object.

A blood-stained knife suspected to have been used in the killing was recovered at the scene and preserved as an exhibit.

Police also recovered personal belongings, including a mobile phone, believed to belong a man suspected of involvement in the killing. The items were found inside a white Toyota Succeed parked in the apartment’s parking yard.

The vehicle is suspected to belong to the deceased’s boyfriend.

The suspect was later arrested at Olpusimoru Police Station in Narok North Sub-County, where he had reportedly fled to after the incident.

Crime Scene Investigation personnel documented and processed the scene before the body was moved to Kwa Jack Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Police said the deceased and the suspect had moved into the rented premises about three weeks ago.

The motive for the killing remains unclear, as detectives continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding Tonkei’s death.

And police in Nyamira are investigating the death of a 20-year-old man whose body was found behind Omwoyo Plaza in Nyamira Town early Saturday morning.

The deceased, identified as Martin Nyambane Kerosi was found lying on his back and bleeding from the head, with his face covered in blood.

Police said the incident was reported at about 3am on August 22, 2026, after a caller informed Corporal Philip Inua that a man had been seriously assaulted by unknown people and was lying unconscious behind the plaza in Township Sub-location, Bonyamatuta Chache Location.

A wooden rod believed to have been used in the assault was recovered at the scene and preserved as an exhibit as detectives began investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing.

The scene was documented and processed by the Nyamira County Crime Scene Investigation team.

No suspect had been arrested by the time of reporting, while detectives from DCI Nyamira South were handling the case.

Kerosi’s body was moved to the Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Police have appealed for information that could assist in identifying and apprehending those responsible for the attack.
