Police in Embu County are investigating murder after a 34-year-old man was found dead outside a neighbour’s compound in Makengi Shopping Centre, Embu West Sub-County.
The incident was reported on Sunday after a local said one Frederick Chambari Mugambi, had been found lying outside her compound.
Police officers who responded to the scene confirmed that the body of Mugambi was lying within the compound at Makengi Shopping Centre.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), together with crime scene officers, processed and documented the scene before the body was removed to Embu Level 5 Funeral Home for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.
Police have not yet established the cause of death, and investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, two men were arrested in Machakos County after a suspected coffee thief was allegedly hacked to death during a confrontation at a farm in Ng’engeta Village, Kasinga Sublocation.
The incident was reported on Sunday, prompting officers from Mutituni Police Station, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and crime scene personnel to visit the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate the deceased, identified as 44-year-old Evans Kyalo Sammy, was stealing coffee berries from his farm.
Locals reportedly responded to the alleged theft and attacked Kyalo using a panga, inflicting five deep cuts to his head.
The suspects later informed the victim’s brother, who rushed to the scene and attempted to take him for treatment. However, Kyalo succumbed to his injuries before reaching hospital.
Crime scene officers processed and documented the scene, recovering a blood-stained panga, a black jacket with blood stains, a cap and approximately six kilograms of coffee berries, all of which were retained as exhibits.
The two suspects were arrested and are being held at Machakos Police Station, where they are expected to be charged with murder.
The body of the deceased was moved to the Machakos Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
