Former Nairobi Governor and NEDP Party leader Mike Sonko has once again captured national attention after extending a helping hand to a nine-month pregnant woman who had reportedly been abandoned and left homeless at one of the most vulnerable moments of her life.
In an emotional statement shared on social media, Sonko revealed that he had temporarily taken the woman under his care after learning of her heartbreaking ordeal.
According to Sonko, the expectant mother had been chased away from her cousin’s home, leaving her without shelter as she prepared to give birth.

To make matters worse, the man alleged to be responsible for the pregnancy had reportedly distanced himself from her, claiming that she had not been faithful during their relationship.
“No woman carrying a child should ever have to face such a situation alone,” Sonko said.
“We have temporarily taken her under our care and are providing the support she needs as she prepares to bring a new life into this world.”
The former governor emphasized that his immediate priority was ensuring the safety and well-being of both the mother and her unborn child.
The touching gesture sparked mixed reactions online, with many Kenyans praising Sonko for stepping in when the woman had seemingly run out of options.
Others called for greater societal responsibility in supporting vulnerable women, particularly expectant mothers facing rejection and homelessness.
This is not the first time Sonko has opened his doors to people going through difficult circumstances.
Over the years, he has built a reputation for intervening in humanitarian cases involving orphaned children, struggling families, victims of domestic violence, and individuals facing financial hardship.
He has previously adopted and supported children affected by tragic incidents, often funding their education and basic needs.
Sonko used the opportunity to urge young people to make responsible decisions regarding relationships and parenthood.
“If you are not ready for parenthood, protect yourselves and avoid situations that may lead to unnecessary suffering,” he stated.
“Every child deserves to be born into love, care, and dignity.”
His remarks also highlighted the challenges faced by many expectant mothers who find themselves abandoned by partners and family members during pregnancy.
Women’s rights advocates have repeatedly called for stronger support systems for such women, arguing that pregnancy should not become a period marked by stigma, neglect, or isolation.
“As a society, let us learn to support vulnerable mothers instead of judging, abandoning, or condemning them,” Sonko added.
“Today, we have given this mother hope, and by God’s grace, we will stand with her until she safely delivers her baby.”
The emotional rescue comes as Sonko continues to blend philanthropy with his growing political profile under the National Economic Development Party (NEDP), a party he launched as part of his renewed involvement in Kenya’s political landscape.
For the expectant mother, Sonko’s intervention may have arrived just in time.
What began as a painful story of rejection and uncertainty has now turned into one of compassion and hope.
As Kenyans continue to debate the circumstances surrounding her situation, one thing remains clear: no expectant mother should have to face the journey to motherhood alone.
With her due date fast approaching, many will now be hoping for a safe delivery and a brighter future for both mother and child.
“May God protect her, strengthen her, and grant her a safe delivery,” Sonko concluded in his message.
