Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has cautioned residents of Western Kenya that political disunity could cost the region its influential representation in President William Ruto’s government.
Speaking during a meeting with the Maragoli Cultural Festival Committee ahead of the 46th edition of the festival, Mudavadi underscored the strategic importance of his role in government, reminding the community of the political weight his position carries.
“You need to understand the weight of the position I hold. I am one of you,” Mudavadi said. “If you mess and I am out of the Council, are you ready with the replacement?”
He pointed out that under Article 240 of the Constitution, the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs is a member of the National Security Council, highlighting his role in shaping national security decisions.
Mudavadi also warned the community to be wary of political distractions, singling out Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya as a disruptive force.
“Natembeya is undermining you and your pride, yet you have your son sitting in the National Security Council,” he said. “This is food for thought. Don’t be deceived by his sideshows.”
Turning to local development concerns, Mudavadi emphasized the urgent need for the Maragoli community to address issues around land ownership and succession. He called for regularisation of land titles and consolidation of land holdings to combat generational poverty and boost economic growth.
“There is no order in land succession in our community,” he noted. “We are impoverishing ourselves because things have changed. We must start talking about regularising land ownership and titling.”
He linked land mismanagement to broader economic challenges facing families in the region and encouraged the strengthening of cultural and communal structures.
Looking ahead to the 2027 General Election, Mudavadi urged Western Kenya residents to unite behind President William Ruto, arguing that defeating an incumbent president is no easy task.
“Kenya is not Malawi or Ghana. In 2027, it will be very difficult to unseat a sitting President,” he said. “That’s why we must come together and prepare for the heavyweight political match. Let’s rally behind President Ruto, who is steering us in the right direction.”
He also made it clear that his current responsibilities have moved beyond constituency-level politics.
“I’m not the MP for Sabatia anymore; I’m now a resident of Sabatia and Vihiga County. My focus is on national leadership and advancing the interests of our people at a broader level,” Mudavadi explained.
Mudavadi concluded by urging the Maragoli community to embrace unity, uphold their cultural identity, and work together to ensure the success of the upcoming Maragoli Cultural Festival.
