Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja Hospitalised In London

Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in London, Governor Susan Kihika has confirmed.

Speaking during a vernacular radio interview on Thursday, Governor Kihika, despite recent political tensions between the two leaders, took a conciliatory tone and wished Senator Karanja a swift recovery.

“I want to wish a quick recovery to Senator Tabitha Karanja. I know she is currently hospitalised in London,” Kihika said.

“I was taught that if someone is unwell even if you don’t see eye to eye you don’t kick them while they’re down.”

Governor Kihika did not disclose the nature of the Senator’s health condition.

The message comes just weeks after Senator Karanja publicly criticised Governor Kihika’s absence from office during her maternity leave, claiming that the Governor had not effectively communicated her leave to Nakuru residents.

“Our concern is not that Governor Susan Kihika went to give birth. In fact, if that is true, we want to congratulate her.

We heard she had twins, and that is a double blessing,” Karanja said on March 26.

“But as we speak, the county government is at a standstill.

There are critical issues that remain unresolved, such as the reopening of War Memorial Hospital, which the court ordered to be reopened last year.”

Senator Karanja also raised concerns about the legal procedure for transferring authority during a Governor’s absence, arguing that the process should have been gazetted to inform the public.

In response, Kihika, who has since resumed office, defended her right to take maternity leave and emphasized that leadership and family are not mutually exclusive.

“Children are a blessing from God. Being a leader does not mean you cannot have a family,” she said.

“I have no personal issues with the Senator as long as she stays focused on her responsibilities while I handle mine. And in 2027, I know exactly what she’s aiming for…”

The exchange highlights the ongoing political friction between the two Nakuru leaders, though Kihika’s recent remarks suggest a willingness to set aside differences at least temporarily for the sake of human decency.
