Netizens Bewildered After Photos Of Pastor Mackenzie Looking Fat Emerged


Kenyans on social media have been hit with a shock wave after encountering photos of controversial Pastor Paul Mackenzie looking all fat and healthy, despite having spent close to a year in police custody.

Mackenzie appeared at the Mombasa Law Courts in Mombasa County on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

The preacher appeared in court during the hearing in a matter where he is accused alongside 92 other person’s with 238 counts of manslaughter.

During the proceeding, members of the fourth estate snapped photos of him and duly publicised the same through various social media platform.

The photos attracted the attention of countless Kenyans who were not even interested in the case but Mackenzie’s new body size.

In the photos sighted by Nairobi News, Mackenzie appeared so healthy with an improved body size which stunned many.

Quite a number of netizens wondered how he has managed to gain much weight despite being in police custody.

A multitude of social media users insisted that people in police custody don’t easily gain wait.

Others noted that Mackenzie brainwashed his followers into not eating yet himself was feeding well despite being in jail.

The latest development unfolded months after the leader of a Kenyan cult who encouraged over 400 people to starve themselves to death pleased not guilty to manslaughter.

Mackenzie was arrested in April, 2024, after 429 bodies, including children,were dug up from a mass grave in Shakahola, Malindi.

“There has never been a manslaughter case like this in Kenya,” prosecutor Alexander Jami Yamina said during Mackenzie’s initial arraignment.

The prosecution disclosed that over 400 witnesses were ready to testify against the preacher.

Mackenzie’s incident, rather case shook the entire nation with many people wondering how people could willingly starve themselves to death.

Reports indicated that Mackenzie convinced his followers that they would get to heaven fast if they stopped eating.

The preacher is also facing two other charges; one for terrorism which started in July, 2024, and another one on child abuse charges, which includes subjecting kids to torture, assault and cruelty.
