New updates: National police service sends condolences following fatal helicopter crash

The National Police Service (NPS) has conveyed its condolences following the tragic helicopter crash that occurred on February 28, 2026, claiming the lives of six people, including Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament, Johana Ngeno.

In a statement issued by Muchiri Nyaga, Director of Corporate Communication and Spokesperson for the National Police Service, the Inspector-General of Police, both on behalf of the Service and in his personal capacity, extended heartfelt sympathies to the families, friends, and colleagues of the late legislator and the five other victims who perished in the incident.

The statement further noted that, in line with standard operating procedures and international civil aviation guidelines, the management of investigations into the cause of the crash has formally been handed over to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department.

However, officers from the National Police Service remain deployed at the crash site to secure the area and provide necessary support to the aircraft accident investigators.

The NPS has appealed to members of the public to remain calm as investigations continue, adding that further updates will be issued by the lead investigating agency in due course.
