NTSA suspends four PSV companies over festive season accidents

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the operating licenses of four public service vehicle (PSV) companies following a series of accidents during the December 2025 festive season.

In a statement on Monday, January 19, NTSA said the suspensions were imposed after the companies failed to adhere to KS 2295-2023 standards and violated provisions of the NTSA (Operation of PSV) Regulations, 2014.

“The Authority has resolved to suspend the operating licenses of four public transport operators following reports of fatal crashes during the festive season, failure to comply with KS 2295-2023, and non-adherence to NTSA operational regulations,” the statement read.

The affected companies are Monna Comfort Sacco, Greenline Company, Naekana Route 134 Sacco Ltd, and Uwezo Coast Sacco.

Additionally, NTSA has issued a 21-day ultimatum to The Guardian Coach Limited and Nanyuki Express Cab Services Ltd to comply with regulations.

During this period, the two companies must disengage drivers involved in speeding incidents during the festive season—18 drivers for The Guardian Coach and 26 drivers for Nanyuki Express.

NTSA warned that any vehicles from the suspended companies found operating during the ban will be impounded by traffic officers.

The authority also advised the public not to board vehicles from these operators, citing passenger safety as a top priority.

The suspended companies must undergo a full safety compliance audit before their licenses can be reinstated.

This includes presenting vehicles with defects, such as faulty speed limiters, for inspection at designated centers and submitting comprehensive compliance reports.

Other requirements for reinstatement include submitting signed contracts for drivers and staff, providing details of challenges faced and corrective measures taken, conducting road safety sensitization for drivers, and demonstrating proper fleet and fatigue management systems.

Companies seeking to operate at night must also provide valid night operation authorizations, updated fleet management systems, and verifiable long-distance manifests.

NTSA further mandated that all operators establish offices at pick-up and drop-off points to streamline passenger handling and ensure proper internal operational procedures.
