The official funeral program for the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is out, just hours after his sudden demise in India.
Nairobi News has learnt the late opposition leader will be laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at his rural home in Bondo.
The burial has been set for Sunday as per his wishes to be buried 72 hours after his passing.
This was made public by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who was appointed as the chairperson of Raila Odinga’s Funeral Committee, on the night of Wednesday, October 15, 2025, during a State Address.
Raila Odinga is set to be buried on Sunday, October 19, as per his wishes to be laid to rest 72 hours after his passing.

“We have been advised as a committee by the family that it was the wish of Raila to be buried as soon as possible, and the family has informed us that the timeline is 72 hours,” Kindiki disclosed.
According to Kindiki, the 72-hour period from the time of Raila’s passing elapses on Saturday, but the adjustments had to be made to accommodate any unforseen logistic challenges, including the fact that the deceased passed on in a foreign country which requires repatriation.
Raila Odinga’s Funeral Program
During the State Address, Kindiki also shared the funeral program for the late Raila.
Kenyan delegation is expected to land in Mumbai, India on Wednesday, October 15, at 1.00 a.m.
The group will then leave Mumbai with Raila’s remains enroute Nairobi, Kenya at 2.00 a.m.
Raila’s body is expected to arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday, October 16, at 8:30 a.m.
The body will be received by President William Ruto alongside members of Raila’s family, political leaders and other Kenyans.
From JKIA, the opposition leader’s body will be moved to Lee Funeral Home before being transported to the Parliament buildings, where it will lie in state.
Kenyans will be granted the opportunity to view the body on the same date, between 12 noon and 5.00 p.m.

Raila Odinga To Be Buried On Sunday
Raila’s body will then be moved back to Lee Funeral Home, where it will stay until Friday, October 17.
On Friday, October 17, the government will hold a State Funeral service at the Nyayo Stadium from 8.00 a.m. in honour of Raila Odinga.
The body will later be transported to his residence in Karen, where it will spend the night.
There will be yet another public viewing at Karen before the body is transported by road from Kisumu to Bondo for an overnight stay.
The burial will will finally take place on Sunday, October 19, and will be conducted as per the traditions of the Anglican church with which Ralia belonged.
Raila is expected to be buried in his family’s graveyard in Kango Ka Jaramogi, beside his late son Fidel and father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga’s graves.
