Police in Dandora have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 47-year-old man who succumbed to a head injury while undergoing treatment at hospital.
According to police, the incident was reported on June 5, 2026, after the victim’s son informed police that his father, Patrick Mangeti Chitechi, had died while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.
Investigations established that the deceased sustained a serious head injury on the night of June 3, 2026, at around 11:00 p.m. while in Dandora Phase 5 Estate as he was returning home from work.
The circumstances under which he sustained the injury remain unclear, but police suspect that an unknown person may have assaulted him.
On June 4, Chitechi sought treatment at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where medical examinations reportedly revealed internal bleeding. Due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialized treatment.
However, he succumbed to his injuries on June 5 at about 2:00 a.m. while admitted at the facility.
Police have classified the case as murder and have commenced investigations to establish how the fatal injury was inflicted and identify those responsible.
The body has been preserved at the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination and further investigations.
And police in Kisumu East Sub-County have arrested a 34-year-old man following the death of a woman after an alleged assault at Kamrongo area in Chiga Sublocation.
According to police, they responded to information about a suspected murder at a residential house in the area.
Police officers, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kisumu East, arrived at the scene and found the lifeless body of a woman identified only as Chela, believed to be about 30 years old, lying at the doorstep of the house.
The woman’s boyfriend, 34, had already been restrained by members of the public and was subsequently arrested by police.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect had earlier accompanied the deceased from a wines and spirits outlet in Kibos Market to their residence while both appeared intoxicated. Once at the house, a quarrel reportedly broke out between the two.
Witnesses told investigators that the suspect allegedly assaulted the woman, repeatedly hitting and kicking her on the face, chest and abdomen. The commotion attracted the attention of a neighbour, who alerted the landlord, Michael Amimo, 58.
The landlord reportedly rushed to the house and attempted to intervene, but was unable to stop the assault.
Members of the public later joined in restraining the suspect.
When they checked on the victim, they discovered she was no longer breathing.
Crime scene personnel processed the scene, and the body, which had visible bruises on the face, chest and abdomen, was moved to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending formal identification and a post-mortem examination.
The suspect was re-arrested and remains in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities are expected to recommend charges once inquiries are completed.
