Police officers in Isiolo County have secured an assault rifle and three rounds of ammunition that were voluntarily surrendered by a member of the public in the Oldonyiro area.
According to the National Police Service, the firearm was handed over during a security operation conducted with the support of National Government Administration Officers and local village elders.
The police commended all stakeholders involved in facilitating the voluntary surrender, terming it a positive step in ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms in the region.
Authorities have urged individuals still in possession of illegal weapons to present them to security agencies without fear, emphasising that such cooperation is critical in enhancing safety and stability.
The National Police Service further appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security operations by sharing information related to illegal firearms and other criminal activities.
