Police intensify patrols in Homa Bay to curb rising criminal activity

Police in Homa Bay County have stepped up patrols across key trading centres in a renewed push to deter crime and enhance public safety.

The heightened security presence, led by officers from the National Police Service, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community policing and respond swiftly to emerging threats.

Authorities say regular patrols not only deter criminal activity but also reassure residents that law enforcement remains vigilant and prepared to act.

During one such patrol on Friday, officers received intelligence reports of suspected illegal activities at Riat Shopping Centre in Oria Sub-Location.

Acting promptly on the tip-off, officers conducted a targeted operation at the premises and arrested two suspects.

Police recovered approximately 20 litres of chang’aa — an illicit local brew — and 409 rolls of cannabis sativa believed to be intended for distribution within the area.

Security officials said the crackdown is part of a broader strategy to combat the sale and distribution of illegal alcohol and narcotics, which have been linked to rising insecurity and social challenges in parts of the county.

Officers have vowed to sustain the operations and warned individuals involved in criminal enterprises that they will face the full force of the law.

Residents have been encouraged to continue working closely with security agencies by sharing information that could help prevent crime.

Police say enhanced patrols will remain in place across Homa Bay County as part of efforts to maintain law and order and safeguard communities.
