Kenyan President William Ruto expressed his excitement after touring the MS Vorwegian Dawn, a luxury cruise ship that docked at the Port of Mombasa with over 2,200 tourists on board.
Ruto was welcomed by the ship’s captain and given a guided of the impressive 294-meter-long vessel, which is part of the Norwegian Cruse Line fleet and currently flying under the Bahamas flag.

The President highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to boost Kenya’s tourism industry, focusing on infrastructure development, strategic marketing and creating enhanced tourism experiences throughout the x platform.

“We are investing in quality infrastructure, engaging in strategic marketing, and enriching offers and experiences to sustainably drive our tourism numbers. This will attract foreign investments and stimulate economic growth,” Ruto stated.
The arrival of the Norwegian Dawn underscores Kenya’s growing popularity as a cruse tourism destination.
According to the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), the ship is the largest to ever visit Mombasa, measuring 294 meters in length and boasting a draft of 8.3 meters.

The KPA noted that the ship brought tourists from various nationalities, with many from the United States.
kPA attributed the rising reputation of Mombasa and Lamu as key cruise ship stops to the modernization of the ports and other infrastructure upgrades.

“Enhanced infrastructure, notably a modern cruise terminal, and other strategic developments have led to a surge in cruise vessel calls at the ports of Mombasa and Lamu, positioning Kenya as a key destination for international cruise liners,” the authority said.
During their one-day stay in Mombasa, tourists aboard the Norwegian Down will enjoy a variety of activities, including visits to Tsavo and Amboseli National Parks, city excursions, and a tour of Wasini Island, before continuing their cruise journey.
