Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has praised the NYOTA Fund, describing it as a transformative initiative that will significantly shape the future of young people across Kisumu, Siaya and Homa Bay counties.
Speaking at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo during the official disbursement of the NYOTA Fund, Odinga said she joined President William Samoei Ruto in supporting the programme, which targets young men and women seeking to start or grow their businesses.
“Our youth are the heartbeat and the future of this country,” Odinga said, noting that leaders have for years struggled to identify effective ways of empowering young people.
She lauded the President for rolling out what she termed a practical and well-thought-out solution.
According to the Kisumu Woman Representative, what sets the NYOTA Project apart is its holistic approach to youth empowerment.
She highlighted that beyond seed capital, the programme prioritises financial literacy training and mentorship, equipping beneficiaries with the skills and guidance needed to manage funds responsibly and navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship.
“This is the perfect combination and a clear blueprint for transforming our youth from job seekers into employers of the future,” she said.
Odinga emphasised that youth unemployment cuts across political divides, calling for unity among leaders when it comes to development issues.
She affirmed her full support for the initiative, saying leaders in the region will continue to back progressive programmes that place both resources and skills directly in the hands of young people.
The NYOTA Fund is part of the government’s broader strategy to promote youth-led enterprise and create sustainable employment opportunities across the country.
