President William Ruto has arrived in Moscow, Russia, to attend the Third Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, seeking to strengthen bilateral relations and attract investments in key sectors of Kenya’s economy.
Ruto said his visit aims to deepen Kenya–Russia relations and advance strategic partnerships in trade, investment, energy, infrastructure and technology.
In a statement upon arrival, the President said Kenya was focused on unlocking economic opportunities, strengthening cooperation in peace and security, and advancing the country’s development priorities alongside Africa’s broader prosperity agenda.
“Our focus is on unlocking economic opportunities, strengthening cooperation in peace and security, and advancing Kenya’s development priorities and Africa’s collective prosperity,” Ruto said.
The Head of State noted that Russia’s expertise in energy, mining, fertiliser production, engineering, transport and manufacturing aligns with Kenya’s industrialisation agenda.
He called on Russian investors to explore opportunities in Kenya, particularly in mining, mineral beneficiation, transport, heavy engineering and manufacturing.
“We welcome Russian investors to deepen trade between our two countries, which totalled $380 million in 2025, especially in mining and mineral beneficiation, transport, heavy engineering and manufacturing,” he said.
Ruto also highlighted Kenya’s economic potential, citing its population of 55 million, gross domestic product (GDP) of $136 billion and economic growth of 5.3 per cent in 2025.
According to the President, these economic indicators position Kenya as an attractive investment destination and a strategic gateway to East and Central Africa.
The visit includes engagements with Russian business leaders, with Ruto participating in the Russia–Kenya Business Roundtable in Moscow to explore areas of mutual economic interest.
At the meeting, the President said Kenya was seeking partnerships based on equality, mutual respect and shared economic benefits.
He emphasised that cooperation between the two countries should translate into tangible opportunities for their citizens through increased trade, investment and industrial development.
The Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum brings together leaders, policymakers and business representatives to discuss cooperation between Russia and African countries across economic, political and humanitarian sectors.
Kenya’s participation is expected to provide an opportunity to explore new markets, attract foreign investment and strengthen economic ties with Russia as the government pursues its industrialisation and development agenda.
