Ruto Launches Roads, Electricity Projects as He Tours Kilifi

President William Ruto has launched a series of development projects in Kilifi County, including road construction and electricity connectivity programmes aimed at improving infrastructure and expanding access to essential services.

During his tour of the county, Ruto visited Kwa Ndara in Chonyi, Kilifi South Constituency, where he launched the Last Mile Connectivity Project and the construction of the Mzambarauni-Chasimba road.

The President also called on supporters of the Broad-Based Government, bringing together the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), to work together in advancing development and national unity.

He urged leaders and residents to focus on cooperation and partnership in order to accelerate development and improve the livelihoods of people in Kilifi.

Ruto also laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Mazeras Modern Market in Rabai Constituency.

The market is expected to provide hundreds of traders with designated spaces where they can conduct their businesses in a safer and more organised environment.

The President said the Government plans to invest Sh2 billion during the current financial year to connect 24,000 homes in Kilifi County to electricity.

“Government is investing KSh2 billion to connect 24,000 homes in Kilifi County to electricity this financial year,” Ruto said.

He added that Ganze Constituency would receive Sh350 million under the electricity connectivity programme.

At Rare Primary School in Matano Manne, the President launched another phase of the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project, aimed at extending reliable electricity to more households.

Ruto later launched the construction of the 25-kilometre Kakajuni-Matano Manne road in Ganze Constituency.

The road is being upgraded to bitumen standards at a cost of Sh1.5 billion.

The President also addressed residents of Matano Manne, where he outlined various development projects planned for Kilifi and other parts of the country.

On education, Ruto said access to higher learning should not be determined by a student’s family financial circumstances.

“Students should access higher education based on their academic ability, and not the financial circumstances of their parents,” he said.

The President said the proposed Tertiary Education, Placement and Funding Bill, 2026, would establish a framework under which students admitted to universities, technical colleges and the Kenya Medical Training College would receive full government financial support. The proposal follows the Government’s ongoing reforms to tertiary education financing.

“We are working to ensure that every student who qualifies for university entry is fully funded regardless of their background,” Ruto said during his recent remarks on the proposed reforms.

In Ganze Constituency, Ruto also laid the foundation stone for the construction of student hostels at Godoma Technical Training Institute at a cost of Sh150 million.

He said the Government would further allocate Sh200 million to expand facilities at the institution and increase its capacity.

The expansion is expected to enable Godoma Technical Training Institute to accommodate twice its current student population of about 340 students.

The projects form part of the Government’s wider development programme in Kilifi, covering roads, electricity, markets and technical education.
