Suspect Arrested in Bungoma County with 160 Litres of Illegal Alcohol


A suspect transporting 160 litres of illicit alcohol was arrested on Sunday in Bungoma County.

Officers from Bumula Police Station, while on routine patrol near Mateka Market, discovered an abandoned vehicle that had veered into a ditch.

Upon searching the vehicle, police found the illegal brew concealed in eight 20-litre jerricans.

The discovery sparked a manhunt, during which the suspect was tracked down and arrested. Authorities suspect that the alcohol was intended for illegal sale or distribution in the area.

The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody pending further investigations, and the vehicle involved has been impounded at Bumula Police Station.

Illicit alcohol continues to pose significant health risks and contribute to crime rates across the region, prompting police to increase efforts to crack down on its production and distribution.

Residents are urged to report any suspicious activities to the authorities to help curb the circulation of illegal brews.
