Suspect Arrested Over Alleged Sodomy and Death of Minor in Trans Nzoia

Detectives in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a minor who later died while receiving medical attention.

The suspect, identified as Erick Wamalwa Namukana, alias Funje, is the child’s stepfather. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), he allegedly went into hiding following the incident, prompting detectives to launch a manhunt.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the minor was allegedly sexually assaulted between March 2 and March 3, 2026, before being rushed to Bikeke Health Centre for treatment.

The child was subsequently referred to Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital, where he was reportedly pronounced dead on arrival.

“Following the incident, the suspect fled to an unknown destination, prompting detectives to intensify investigations and pursue leads to trail the suspect and establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s death,” the DCI stated.

The agency said sustained efforts by investigators eventually led to the suspect’s arrest in the Shimo la Tewa area of Milimani, within Kiminini Sub-County.

Following his arrest, Namukana was escorted to the DCI Kiminini offices, where detectives are processing him as investigations continue ahead of his expected arraignment at the Kitale Law Courts.

The DCI expressed condolences to the bereaved family and friends, reaffirming its commitment to protecting children from sexual violence and ensuring justice for victims.
