A teacher was shot and injured after three suspected robbers attacked him and a motorcycle rider along the Karandi-Seria Road in Nyahururu, Laikipia County, early Wednesday morning.
Police said the teacher at Mutitu Comprehensive School, was travelling to school on a motorcycle ridden by its owner, 18-year-old man, when they were accosted by three men riding on an unidentified motorcycle at about 5.10am.
According to police, one of the attackers was armed with a firearm and fired three shots at the two victims.
One bullet struck the teacher on the right knee, entering from the inner side and exiting through the outer side just below the knee.
The motorcycle rider sustained a minor injury to his right thigh during the attack.
The assailants, however, did not manage to steal anything from the victims before fleeing the scene.
The teacher was initially treated at Seria Dispensary before being referred to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital for further treatment. He was reported to be in fair condition.
Police officers visited the scene as investigations began.
One bullet head was recovered at the scene and preserved as an exhibit for ballistic examination as detectives work to identify the attackers and establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The area has been experiencing a sporadic trend of attacks by gunmen amid calls for action to tame the trend.
