Thieves steal building materials worth Sh2 million from Juja Affordable Housing project


Police in Juja, Kiambu County, launched investigations into a major robbery at the Ndarugo Affordable Housing Project after construction materials worth more than Sh2 million were stolen during a night raid.

The incident was reported on Thursday morning by a contractor working at the project site located in Nyacaba area, Komo Location.

According to preliminary investigations, an unknown number of suspects gained access to the construction site during the night through the main entrance and made away with building materials valued at approximately Sh2.06 million.

The stolen items include 40 windows, three doors, 210 iron rods and 90 iron sheets.

During the raid, the suspects allegedly assaulted security personnel and workers who were at the site and in staff residences.

Two construction workers sustained soft tissue injuries and were treated at Gachororo Hospital before being discharged in fair condition.

Police officers and local administrators visited the scene shortly after the incident was reported.

Investigators established that a motor vehicle had been strategically positioned at the main gate where the stolen materials were loaded before being driven away.

In a development that has raised suspicion, police revealed that two security guards who had been assigned to guard the site disappeared together with the suspects after the stolen goods had been loaded onto the vehicle.

Authorities say preliminary findings point to the possibility of an inside job. Efforts are underway to trace the missing guards, recover the stolen property and apprehend those responsible.

Investigations are ongoing.
