Commuters using the ever busy Thika Superhighway have been advised to plan accordingly as the highway and other major Nairobi routes are set to be closed ahead of the CHAN 2024 final scheduled for the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) on Friday, August 29, 2025, announced that Thika Road and others leading to the stadium will experience major traffic snarl ups as the city prepares to host the CHAN 2024 final match between Morocco and Madagascar.
According to an advisory issued by FKF on Friday, August 29, there will be temporary road closures and diversions as from 6.00 am.

The federation disclosed the move is aimed at managing, rather controlling an expected influx of fans intending to hit the stadium for the CHAN 2024 final.
Nairobi News understands the match is projected to draw over 48,000 spectators.
The advisory intimated that the Thika Superhighway will see partial closures with diversions from Nairobi CBD to Ruiru, Juja, or Thika via Kiambu Road at Exit 4, where a roadblock will be stationed at Muthaiga.
“Due to the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), the National Police Service wishes to inform the public of temporary road closures and traffic diversions in Nairobi. Motorists travelling along the Thika Superhighway, particularly the Nairobi CBD–Thika Road route via Ruiru, Juja, and Thika, are advised to use Kiambu Road at Exit 4, as there will be a roadblock at Muthaiga,” the FKF advisory read in part.
Fans heading to Mwiki are advised to use the Ruaka-Baba Dogo-Lucky Summer-Nairobi River-Mwiki route, while traffic from Thika, Juja, and Ruiru to Nairobi CBD will be redirected via the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road.
A roadblock will be placed at the Ruiru interchange, adding to the congestion along the route.
“Thika Superhighway heading to Mwiki, use Ruaka–Baba Dogo–Lucky Summer–Nairobi River–Mwiki. Thika, Juja, and Ruiru heading to Nairobi CBD, use Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road: there will be a roadblock at Ruiru interchange,” the statement read.
Motorists travelling from Githurai to Nairobi CBD have been advised to take the alternative Githurai 44 to Kiambu Road route to avoid delays.

Additional Police Presence
Those heading to Kasarani Stadium on foot have been directed to use the service lanes at exits 7 and 4 for safe access.
FKF also noted that additional police officers will be deployed, with authorities warning of strict enforcement against violations.
“The National Police Service continues to work collaboratively with relevant agencies and urges all motorists to cooperate with officers on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow. Additional police officers have been deployed and will take stern action against anyone violating traffic rules,” FKF announced.
