Three armed robbery suspects arrested, firearm recovered in joint police operation

Police have arrested three suspected members of a violent robbery gang and recovered a firearm following a coordinated overnight operation in Kirinyaga County.

The multi-agency operation, conducted at around 1:04 a.m., involved officers from Ngong Police Station, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and personnel from Mwea–Makutano Police Post.

According to police, the team acted on actionable intelligence that led them to the Makutano–Ngomongo area, where the suspects were believed to be hiding.

“In a swift and well-coordinated operation, officers successfully apprehended three notorious robbery with violence suspects,” police said in a statement.

The suspects were identified as Alex Wanjiku alias Aleko, Job Wachira Wanjohi, and Francis Kinyanjui Wanjiku alias Kinyaa.

Authorities believe the trio is linked to a violent robbery incident that occurred in Ngong on March 12, 2025, during which a victim was shot and seriously injured.

“The recovery of the firearm further cements the suspects’ link to the violent crime,” police noted.

Officers also recovered a red motorcycle, registration number KMGD 970K (TVS), believed to have been used as a getaway vehicle during the robbery.

Additionally, detectives seized clothing suspected to have been worn by the suspects on the day of the crime, which is expected to serve as key evidence in the ongoing investigation.

The suspects are currently being held at Ngong Police Station as investigations continue, with authorities seeking to establish whether they are connected to other criminal activities.

“This successful operation underscores our unwavering commitment to protect the public and bring perpetrators of violent crime to justice,” police said.

Members of the public have been urged to continue sharing information with security agencies to support efforts in combating crime.
