A three-year-old boy drowned in a shallow water pond in Chepilat village, Nandi Central Sub-County.
The boy was found floating in a pond normally used by residents to fetch water for domestic purposes.
According to police his mother had left home to attend church when she received information at about 11am that the child had been found in the water.
Two boys discovered the child’s lifeless body.
Police officers visited the scene and found the child’s body lying on the ground.
The body had no visible physical injuries.
Crime scene personnel processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Jumuia Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
Elsewhere, a seven-year-old boy drowned while swimming in River Chwele in Sabatia village, Mwikhupo Sub-location, Bungoma South Sub-County.
The deceased was swimming in the river on Sunday evening in the company of three other boys when the incident occurred.
Police officers and detectives from Bungoma South visited the scene and established that the boy’s body had been retrieved from the river.
The body had no visible physical injuries.
Crime scene investigators processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination.

And a 47-year-old man drowned in a stream in Kakamega South Sub-County while washing his clothes, police have reported.
Walter Kimweno, a resident of Mabusi village in Shimanyiro Location, drowned in Sheresano Stream on Sunday evening.
Police officers who visited the scene established that Kimweno had gone to the stream to wash clothes before he drowned.
The report indicated that Kimweno had a history of epilepsy.
With the assistance of members of the public, police officers retrieved his body from the stream. No visible injuries were found.
The scene was processed before the body was moved to Mukumu Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
