Two Arrested In Failed Attempt To Steal 6,000 Litres Of Diesel From Kajiado Petrol Station

Two men were arrested on Monday after a botched attempt to steal 6,000 litres of diesel worth over Sh 1.2 million from a petrol station in Kajiado’s Oloililai Sub-County, Bisil township.

At around 4 PM, an Isuzu NPR tanker pulled up at Sajjy Petrol Station, where the two suspects, posing as affluent buyers, requested to purchase the massive amount of diesel.

Claiming to be in constant communication with the petrol station owner, the men asserted that they had already transferred Sh 1.2 million to the owner’s bank account.

Without questioning the proof of payment provided by the suspects, a pump attendant began dispensing the diesel.

However, after pumping about 100 litres, the attendant grew suspicious and excused himself briefly.

He made a quick call to the owner, who confirmed that no such payment had been made and that no such transaction had been arranged.

Upon confirming his suspicions, the attendant calmly signaled his colleagues, who swiftly intervened and restrained the two suspects.

They immediately contacted the police, who arrived at the scene to find the two men securely detained.

The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Boniface Karanja and 54-year-old Daniel Kimani, were arrested and taken into custody.

The vehicle they used, with registration number KCC 312G, was also seized.

Further investigation revealed that Karanja and Kimani had traveled from Nairobi and were part of a larger syndicate targeting petrol stations in smaller towns.

Police are continuing their investigation into the syndicate’s activities.

“The swift actions of the pump attendant and his colleagues helped foil what could have been a significant theft,” a police spokesperson said.

“We are actively pursuing further leads to dismantle the larger network behind this scheme.”
