Two men were found dead after their bodies were spotted floating in River Migori in Matanda area, Nyatike Sub-County.
The bodies of Michael Ochieng Onyango, 50, and Charles Owino, 41, were discovered on Wednesday morning, October 7, 2026, police said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the two men were last seen together in Matanda area at around 8pm on Monday, October 5.
Police suspect they may have drowned while attempting to cross River Migori on their way to Ogaka area.
The bodies had started decomposing when they were recovered. Police processed the scene before moving the remains to Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examinations.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Drowning incidents have been on the rise amid efforts to address the menace.
And a 26-year-old man died after being assaulted by unknown individuals in an incident reported in Kangemi, Nairobi.
Francis Mwangi was found injured and taken to his rental house in Gishagi area by Good Samaritans on Tuesday evening, October 6, 2026.
Mwangi had sustained injuries to his face, head and right hand after being assaulted at an unknown location by unidentified people.
He was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
However, he succumbed to his injuries at around 12:30pm on Wednesday, October 7.
His body was moved to the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the assault and his death.
