U-Turn In Investigation: Suspect Hashim Dagane’s Alleged Terror Links As A Recruit Operating In Nairobi

Detectives from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) have joined the investigation into Hashim Dagane, a murder suspect, to determine if he may also be a terror recruit operating in Nairobi.

This comes after reports revealed that Dagane traveled to Turkey for an unknown mission, where he impersonated a Nairobi businessman to extort money from unsuspecting online users.

The investigation also focuses on how Dagane, a non-Kenyan, fraudulently obtained a Kenyan identity card.

Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja testified before the National Assembly’s Administration and Internal Affairs Committee, revealing that Dagane arrived in Kenya from Ethiopia and used fraudulent methods to acquire official documentation.

Despite claiming to be Kenyan, Dagane does not speak Swahili, English, or any local dialect, raising further suspicions about his identity.

Authorities discovered that Dagane posed as a member of Garissa’s Ogaden clan to obtain the fake ID, although his real name is Mahat.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover the network behind the fraudulent issuance of Kenyan IDs, exposing a larger problem of identity fraud in the country.

Dagane is also the primary suspect in the brutal murders of a mother, daughter, and 12-year-old niece, whose bodies were found in separate locations across Nairobi and Machakos counties.

He was arrested on November 3 following a public tip-off. Further investigations revealed his involvement in the murder of his wife, Deka Gorone.

Her body was found boiled in an unknown chemical and dumped at Lang’ata Cemetery on October 31.

Deka’s family revealed that she had been in a romantic relationship with Dagane, despite her parents rejecting his marriage proposals.

After her disappearance, the family received a voice message from her, claiming she had left the country.

However, investigators later discovered that Dagane had been using Deka’s phone to mislead her family.

The investigation has revealed a complex web of identity fraud, terrorism links, and brutal murders.

A second suspect, Jared Mong’are, has also been arrested, and police continue to piece together the details of the case.
