Ukraine Detains Seven Suspects, Including Teenagers, Accused Of Planning Sabotage For Russia

Ukrainian authorities announced on Tuesday the detention of seven individuals, including five teenagers, suspected of plotting sabotage attacks on behalf of Russia.

This marks the latest wave of youth arrests amid the ongoing conflict between the two countries, now entering its fourth year.

Among those detained is a 14-year-old schoolgirl allegedly preparing explosives aimed at targeting a Ukrainian soldier.

Additionally, two 14-year-old boys face accusations of attempting to detonate a police vehicle.

The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) stated in an official release that the suspects had been recruited through Telegram channels promising “easy money” to carry out terrorist activities against Ukrainian military and law enforcement personnel.

“The perpetrators were recruited by the occupiers through Telegram channels advertising ‘easy money’,” the SBU noted.

Moscow and Kyiv frequently accuse each other of exploiting vulnerable civilians, particularly teenagers, by recruiting them to conduct sabotage or attacks.

Both sides have highlighted the use of social media platforms as tools for grooming and incentivizing these youths.

All suspects are believed to have planned attacks involving homemade explosive devices. If found guilty, they could face prison sentences ranging from 12 years to life imprisonment.

The ongoing conflict continues to cast a shadow over the region, with the involvement of minors raising fresh concerns about the human toll and tactics employed in the war.
