Why Pharmacy And Poisons Board Orders Recall Of Sure Condoms Ahead Of Christmas Holidays

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has announced the recall of Sure Condoms from Batch No. 2405055 ahead of the Christmas holidays.

In a statement released on Wednesday, December 11, the board stated that these lubricated condoms did not meet the required safety specifications, particularly failing the “freedom from holes” (conductivity) test.

This means the condoms may not provide the expected level of protection, which is crucial for both contraception and disease prevention.

As a result of this safety concern, the PPB has instructed all pharmaceutical outlets, healthcare facilities, and healthcare professionals to immediately quarantine the affected product and cease its distribution, sale, or issuance.

Additionally, members of the public who may have purchased the condoms have been urged to return the product to their nearest healthcare facility or supplier.

The board also encouraged the public to report any suspected cases of substandard products or adverse drug reactions to the nearest healthcare facility or directly to the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

This recall follows another earlier quarantine order by the PPB for Mefnac oral suspension (Mefenamic Acid 50 mg/5 ml), a painkiller suspected of contamination with harmful chemicals, Diethylene Glycol (DEG) and Ethylene Glycol (EG), which were found to be above acceptable limits.

The PPB emphasized the need for immediate action to protect consumers from potential harm due to these substandard medicines.
