Woman Shares Experience Of Being Arrested After Reporting Assault By Suspected Government Official

A woman in Kasarani, Nairobi County, has shared her distressing experience of being arrested after reporting the assault of her 8-year-old son by a man she believes to be a government official.

Liankey Nyambura recounted how the incident occurred two weeks ago when a visitor, who she claims is a government official, attacked her son while he was playing with other children.

According to Nyambura, the suspect took her son to the second floor of his house with the intention of making him fall.

However, when the man noticed a neighbor watching, he changed his approach and struck the child on the ceiling before letting him fall to the ground.

The boy lost consciousness for around 15 minutes, she said.

After the assault, Nyambura reported the incident to the Kasarani police, providing hospital documents to support her claims.

However, instead of the suspect being arrested, Nyambura herself was detained.

She expressed frustration, questioning whether she was being arrested because she refused to pay sh10,000 for the police’s “tea” and sh10,000 for bail.

Despite the arrest, Nyambura was released the following day without charges.

Nyambura’s son received medical attention, with a report from Penda Medical Centre confirming the grievous harm.

She was also issued a P3 form. Despite submitting her case to the Kasarani sub-county children’s office, she said that no progress has been made in prosecuting the suspect, who remains free.

Nyambura is now pleading for justice for her son and herself, calling for action in the case and accountability for the wrongful arrest.
