Revered Swahili news anchor Zubeidah Kananu Koome has left KTN after close to two decades at the Mombasa Road based station.
Kananu announced her exit from the station on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
Taking to social media, the scribe officially bid farewell to Standard Group PLC, as she marked the end of an illustrious 18-year career at KTN News.
In an emotional farewell message, Zubeidah reflected on her journey at the Mombasa Road-based media house, describing it as a chapter full of growth, challenges, friendships, and invaluable lessons.

“After 18 incredible years at Standard Group PLC, a chapter that has shaped my journey as a journalist, news anchor, and editor, I am stepping into a new season,” she wrote.
“While I close this chapter, my commitment to journalism and to serving our fraternity through the Kenya Editors Guild remains stronger than ever. The story continues, and together, we will keep shaping the future of media,” she added.
Her departure has sparked tributes from colleagues, fans, and industry players, many of whom praised her for her professionalism, leadership, and unwavering commitment to ethical journalism.
Koome joined Standard Group KTN in 2007 as an intern for a three-month contract.

She began her career covering the 2007 December general election.
After the end of her three-month contract, she earned a one-year contract through 2008, followed by a formal employment contract in 2009.
She handled several shows at the station including Jukwaa la KTN, Kioo cha Hoja, Dira ya Wiki among others.
Koome was elected first female President of the Kenya Editors Guild in May 2023.
