On Thursday morning, a matatu drove off the road due to brake failure, resulting in a road accident near Kolol along the Iten-Kabarnet road, injuring twelve persons.
Eleven people were traveling from Iten to Kabarnet in a Toyota Matatu owned by Trans-West Sacco and operated by Jairo Masika Kamasi, 59.
According to Elgeyo Marakwet County Police Commander Peter Mulinge, who verified the occurrence, the driver lost control and overturned the vehicle when the brakes failed while it was descending from Kolol Viewpoint.
While the passengers had scrapes, bruises, dislocations, and fractures, the driver’s right leg suffered a complicated fracture.
The damaged car was brought to the Iten Police Station for examination, and all of the victims were transported to the Iten County Referral Hospital for medical attention.
Commander Mulinge reminded drivers to follow traffic laws, especially when traveling on the hilly and steep Iten-Kabarnet road.
