A 25-year-old man suspected of being involved in the rape and murder of a Grade 8 pupil at Magoto Primary School in Suna West, Migori County, has been lynched by an angry mob.
The incident occurred on Sunday after the suspect, identified only as “Daddy,” was forcibly taken from police custody by local residents.
Eyewitnesses reported that the community overwhelmed the police officers who had brought the suspect to various locations for investigative purposes.
Area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Erickson Omondi stated that the suspect allegedly confessed to killing the school girl before being attacked by the mob.
Omondi urged law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation into the schoolgirl’s murder and to take appropriate legal action against any additional suspects who may still be at large.
In light of the rising insecurity in the area, local residents are calling on the government to establish a police post to address the increasing number of unexplained killings in the region.
Community members expressed their concerns, citing several recent deaths under mysterious circumstances.
