Babu Owino denies drug use allegations, urges CS John Mbadi to focus on National issues

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has dismissed claims that he regularly consumes cannabis, alcohol, or other drugs, stating that he has been sober for over six years.

The remarks follow statements by CS John Mbadi, who alleged on CIA that Babu Owino takes cannabis three times a day “like a doctor’s prescription.”

Responding to the allegations, Babu Owino said, “I used to consume cannabis, drugs, and alcohol in the past, but I stopped on January 17, 2020. It has been six years since I last touched any of those substances. I now only drink water.”

The lawmaker also criticized CS John Mbadi, whom he described as a “self-proclaimed highest-ranking law leader,” urging him to focus on matters of national importance instead of personal attacks.

You should focus on building the nation and addressing critical issues like Safaricom privatization and the Pipeline Corporation, which impact jobs and livelihoods for millions of Kenyans,” Babu stated.

He highlighted the plight of ordinary citizens struggling with bills, unemployment, and poverty, contrasting it with the privileged lives of those in positions of power.

Babu further defended his credibility and public standing, noting his popularity and influence among Kenyans.

I was proclaimed by the people. According to FinfoTrack rankings, I stand at 58% while Mbadi is at 2%. That clearly shows where the people’s trust lies,” he said.

The MP’s response comes amid heightened political tension and personal attacks between rival factions, as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Babu’s statement reinforces his narrative of personal reform and positions him as a critic of perceived elitism and mismanagement among political peers.
