Governor Wavinya Ndeti on the spot following Sammy Kioko, Tom Daktari’s arrest at her office

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has come under intense public scrutiny after comedian Sammy Kioko and his associate Tom Daktari were allegedly arrested and assaulted at the county offices during a dramatic protest over unpaid millions.

Arrest At Governor’s Doorstep

The two were reportedly apprehended on Tuesday, March 31, after staging a protest outside the Machakos County headquarters, demanding payment of a long-standing debt.

According to reports, the situation quickly escalated into chaos, with claims that county askaris forcefully subdued and detained them.

Kioko, who rose to fame through the Churchill Show, had earlier announced plans to camp outside the governor’s office if the county failed to settle the debt, signaling growing frustration over delayed payments.

Witness accounts and videos circulating online show a tense confrontation at the gates of the county offices, with Kioko allegedly being grabbed and dragged during the scuffle as security officers moved in to disperse protesters.

The KSh 19 Million Tender Dispute

At the heart of the standoff is a bitter tender row between Kioko and the Machakos County Government.

The comedian, alongside his sister, claims they are owed approximately KSh 19 million for supplying uniforms under a county contract.

However, county officials have reportedly disputed his involvement in the tender, insisting he was not legally privy to the contract, an assertion Kioko has strongly rejected.

The dispute has dragged on for months, with Kioko publicly accusing the county administration of delaying payments and allegedly intimidating suppliers who speak out.

History Of Clashes With Machakos County

This is not the first time Kioko has found himself at odds with the Machakos County Government. His fallout with the county dates back to the controversial tender, which has seen him repeatedly call out the administration over non-payment.

In recent weeks, the comedian escalated the matter by rallying other contractors and suppliers to expose what he described as systemic delays in settling pending bills.

He even issued an ultimatum to Governor Ndeti, vowing to take direct action if the issue was not resolved, setting the stage for the dramatic confrontation witnessed at the county offices.

Claims Of Assault And Intimidation

Following the arrest, fellow comedian Nasra Yusuff alleged that Kioko was beaten during the incident, describing it as an extreme show of impunity against individuals demanding payment.

Reports also indicate that Tom Daktari, who had accompanied Kioko in solidarity, was similarly detained as tensions flared outside the premises.

The allegations have sparked outrage online, with Kenyans questioning the use of force against civilians pursuing what appears to be a contractual dispute.

Political Heat Mounts On Wavinya Ndeti

The incident has now placed Governor Ndeti in the spotlight, with critics demanding accountability over how the situation was handled at her office.

As pressure mounts, questions are being raised about the county’s handling of supplier payments, as well as the conduct of enforcement officers during the protest.

While the county government has previously indicated it has a plan to settle pending bills, Kioko and other contractors remain unconvinced, insisting that promises have not translated into action.

A Dispute Far From Over

What began as a payment disagreement has now evolved into a high-profile standoff blending entertainment, politics, and governance.

With public attention firmly fixed on Machakos, the unfolding saga could have wider implications, not just for Kioko’s case, but for how county governments handle contractors and dissent.

For now, the spotlight remains on Governor Ndeti as Kenyans await clarity on both the alleged assault and the unresolved multimillion-shilling tender dispute.
