Fisherman found dead in Homa Bay house as police probe poisoning


Police in Rachuonyo North Sub-county, Homa Bay County, launched investigations into the death of a 56-year-old fisherman in a case suspected to involve poisoning.

 

The incident happened Saturday, prompting officers to visit the scene where the deceased, identified as Tom Mboya Owiti.

He was found lying on his back inside his rental house. According to preliminary investigations, he had reportedly complained of a severe stomach ache and was vomiting earlier in the morning before he was later found dead. Police also observed fluid oozing from his mouth and nose.

Investigators suspect possible poisoning, although the exact cause of death will be established through a post-mortem examination and forensic analysis.

Police said the deceased lived with a woman identified as Eunice Adhiambo, who was not found at the residence and whose whereabouts are currently unknown. Detectives are seeking to trace her to assist with the ongoing investigations.

Crime scene personnel collected swab samples for forensic examination before the body was moved to Nyadero Mortuary in Nyakach Sub-county, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Elsewhere, police have launched investigations into the murder of a 34-year-old miraa trader whose body was found inside his stall at Kakamega Main Stage Market on Saturday morning.

Police officers visited the scene and found the body of Emmanuel Odhiambo lying in a pool of blood inside his stall, where he operated a miraa business. The body had been covered with a piece of cloth.

Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased sustained a serious injury to the right side of the head, believed to have been inflicted with a blunt object.

Crime scene investigators processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Kakamega County General Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police have commenced investigations to establish the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible.

And police in Kisumu are investigating the death of an unidentified woman whose body was discovered in the Skyway area within Kondele on Friday morning.

Police found the body of a middle-aged woman, estimated to be about 38 years old, lying on her back and partially undressed.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the woman may have been sexually assaulted before being strangled or otherwise killed, with her body later dumped at the location where it was found. Residents are said to have discovered the body at around 7:00 a.m.

Investigators noted that the body had no visible external injuries. The scene was processed by forensic officers before the body was moved to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits postmortem examination and identification.

Police have launched investigations to establish the woman’s identity, the circumstances surrounding her death, and those responsible for the suspected murder.
