16-year-old boy killed in knife attack in Garissa


A 16-year-old boy was killed and his father injured after they were allegedly attacked by three young men armed with knives and pangas in Garissa County.

The incident occurred on Friday morning in the Milimani area of Ziwani Sub-location, within Tana River County.

Police said Khalif Omar Wadesa, 52, was at home with his second wife, Zuhura, when a disagreement escalated into a scuffle at about 10:30am.

His three stepsons, allegedly responded to the confrontation armed with knives and pangas.

They allegedly attacked Wadesa and his biological son, Abdiaziz Khalif Omar.

The 16-year-old sustained a deep stab wound to the upper back, while his father suffered a deep cut to the back of his head.

Police officers on patrol responded to the incident and rushed the two injured victims to Garissa Teaching and Referral Hospital.

However, Abdiaziz was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, while his father was treated and discharged in fair condition.

The boy’s body was moved to the hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination as police launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.

The three suspects were identified by police as the deceased’s stepbrothers as investigations continue.

And police in Teso North, Busia County, have launched a manhunt for a suspect accused of stabbing a 22-year-old man to death.

James Jeremy Omukure was found dead at Kapesur area on Friday around midday with a fresh stab wound to his stomach and his intestines protruding, according to a police report.

Police officers who visited the scene established that Omukure had allegedly been stabbed by a man identified as Elvis Asuru, who fled immediately after the attack.

The scene was documented by police officers before the body was moved to Kocholia Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Police have launched a manhunt for Asuru, who remains at large, as investigations continue to establish the circumstances and motive behind the killing.

Police said further updates would follow as the investigation progresses.
