There is no conspiracy or plot to undermine Chief Justice Martha Koome or the Judiciary, according to Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen.
The CS clarified that the recent issue involving the Chief Justice was a matter of three police officers assigned to her who had been promoted and were due to leave for training.
Murkomen emphasized that the Chief Justice remains well-protected, with 32 security personnel assigned to her.
Even with the three officers being sent for training, she will still have 29 officers assigned to her for security duties.
“Our Chief Justice is one of the most guarded public officers, and we remain committed to providing security to all public officers who are entitled to it,” Murkomen said.
The CS also addressed the controversy surrounding the matter, saying that the issue had been unnecessarily publicized.
“Unfortunately, our Chief Justice went public with this issue, and I want to assure you that I have an excellent relationship with her.
Unless there’s an issue on her side, I have never had any issues with the Chief Justice, and neither has the Inspector General of Police,” he stated.
Murkomen further explained that the Chief Justice is entitled to six police officers as bodyguards according to the manual, but she has been provided with up to 32 officers.
The three officers who were promoted and reassigned were the only ones affected by the changes.
“The misunderstanding arose when the IG, in his effort to do a favor for the officers working with the Chief Justice, promoted them,” Murkomen explained.
In an attempt to clear the air, the CS suggested that the Chief Justice should have personally reached out to the Inspector General to express gratitude for the promotions.
“Ordinarily, the Chief Justice should have called the IG to say, ‘thank you very much for promoting my officers,’ but unfortunately, it has gone the other way,” Murkomen remarked.
This explanation seeks to settle the matter and reassure the public that the security of the Chief Justice remains intact, and that there is no ill intent from the government or law enforcement.
