A former football coach has been sentenced to imprisonment after being convicted of defiling minors in his care.
Kilifi Principal Magistrate Ivy Wasike handed down the sentence to Peter Muriithi after the prosecution successfully proved the case against him.
Muriithi will now serve a life sentence in prison.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) presented evidence in a Kilifi court connecting Muriithi to the sexual abuse of young boys.
In addition to the life sentence, Muriithi was fined Sh90 million, with a failure to pay resulting in an additional 110 years behind bars.
The ruling also followed his conviction for child pornography and possession of obscene material involving an 11-year-old minor.
Muriithi faced further charges for trafficking in persons for sexual exploitation, in violation of Section 3(1) and Section 3(5) of the Counter-Trafficking in Persons Act No. 8 of 2010.
The prosecution outlined how Muriithi, who managed a football team with players under 15, recruited minors and provided financial support to their families to secure their silence.
The crimes occurred between 2022 and 2023 in the Mwembe Tayari area of Malindi sub-county. The convict has 14 days to appeal the sentence.
