A massive fire broke out on the night of Friday, August 22, 2025, destroying part of the Khoja Flats located near the Sakina Mosque in Mombasa.

The blaze, which erupted on the top floor of the building opposite the mosque, sent thick plumes of smoke into the air, prompting panic among residents and passersby.

Footage from the scene showed heavy smoke billowing from the offices on the upper floors as firefighters battled the flames.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Mombasa fire brigade responded swiftly, with multiple fire engines deployed to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
