A female suspect was apprehended on Wednesday, and a firearm associated with the deceased Wells Fargo manager, Willis Onyango Ayieko, was seized from her during a shootout on the outskirts of Siaya town.
Authorities reported that the woman was accompanied by her boyfriend, who is the primary suspect in Ayieko’s murder.
The boyfriend managed to flee the scene despite sustaining gunshot wounds during the exchange of fire, according to police.
Police is urging any medical facility that may treat an injured male to notify them for further action.
Additional personnel have been deployed to the area to assist in the search for the suspect following his escape.
According to police reports, the couple was traveling in a sedan when they were confronted on Wednesday morning, which led to the ensuing gunfight.
During the altercation, the fleeing suspect dropped a pistol that belonged to Ayieko, who was a licensed firearm owner.
The recovered pistol was found to be unloaded. Investigators also discovered bloodstains at the scene, suggesting that the suspect had sustained injuries.
“The main suspect escaped with bullet injuries and we appeal to the local health facilities that may get such a case to report it immediately,” said the police.
Major thoroughfares leading to and from Siaya Town were obstructed for inspections following the incident.
The woman involved was taken into custody for questioning.
This arrest marks the second occurrence following an earlier apprehension on Monday in the Dandora area of Nairobi.

According to police reports, the arrest was executed as a result of an investigation conducted by multi-agency teams.
The suspect, identified as Victor Ouma Okoth, was located in his hideout in Nairobi’s Dandora Phase IV on Monday night, where he had been renting a residence funded by the proceeds of the crime.
Forensic analysis placed him at the crime scene as part of the investigation led by a collaborative team of detectives from the DCI’s Homicide, CRIB, and Operations units.
The investigation remains active, with the team pursuing significant leads to identify and apprehend additional accomplices, as stated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
It is reported that Okoth utilized Ayieko’s mobile phone to withdraw funds from a local Mpesa agency.
Authorities indicate that Okoth is a former convict hailing from the nearby Khwisero area.
An autopsy performed on Ayieko’s remains revealed that he succumbed to head injuries.
Chief government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor noted that these injuries resulted in bleeding within the brain.
He further explained that the absence of tissue from the mouth, ears, and cheek was due to animal predation at the location where the body was discovered.
The body was found in a swollen state within a stream in Siaya County several days after the murder.
“They were caused by water animals like fish and crabs. Infact we found a dead crab on the clothes. We think they were targeting the soft parts of the body,” he said.
