Nairobi News understands the blood moon transpires during a total lunar eclipse where the Earth is said to line up between the moon and the sun, hiding the moon from sunlight.
According to NASA, the blood moon occurs when the only light that reaches the moon’s surface is from the edge of the Earth’s sky.
The air particles from Earth’s sky scatter out most of the blue light, and the remaining light reflects onto the moon’s surface with a red glow, making the moon appear red in the night sky.

It is the longest 82 minutes moments of entirety of the decade.
According to astronomers, unlike solar eclipses, no special glasses are required to watch a lunar eclipse- it can be seen with the naked eye.
A smartphone or a digital camera can help you capture this remarkable view.
During the 82 minutes, the moon will darken enough to allow the night sky to come alive with stars.
Sharp-eyed sky observers may see planet Saturn, which is a bright yellow point of light near the moon.
