Man found dead in thickets in West Pokot

A 26-year-old man was found dead with visible injuries in thickets in Kanyikey area, Kipkomo Sub-County, West Pokot County.

The body of Cleophas Wanda was discovered at around 8am on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

Police officers led by the OCS visited the scene and recovered the body, which had injuries to the head, hands and leg. The head appeared to have been struck with a blunt object, while both hands were swollen and bruised, in what investigators suspect could be defensive injuries. There was also a bleeding wound on one of the legs.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Wanda left his family home in May 2026 and went to the Sook area.

His biological father told police that his son had been suspected of involvement in a series of stock theft cases.

Investigators suspect that Wanda may have been killed elsewhere before his body was dumped in the thickets near his ancestral home.

A Wosha detergent paper bag containing shopping items was also recovered at the scene.

The scene was documented and photographed before the body was moved to Kapenguria Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy.

Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding his death and identify those responsible.
