Man found hacked to death outside bathing shack in Malindi


Detectives in Malindi are investigating the murder of a 59-year-old man who was found hacked to death within his homestead in Kanyagwa Huruma Village, Kilifi County.

The incident was reported on Wednesday night by the deceased’s brother who said the victim had been attacked by unknown assailants while walking from his bathing shack to his house.

According to police, the deceased, identified as Patrick Thinga Katana, was attacked at about 9:15 p.m. on June 3, approximately ten metres behind his dwelling house.

Police responded to the scene and found Katana kneeling lifeless at the entrance of the bathing shack.

Police observed deep cut wounds on his head, hands and back, suggesting he had been struck with a sharp object.

Preliminary findings indicate that the victim may have been attacked from behind.

Investigators noted that there were no visible signs of a struggle at the scene, and the motive behind the killing remains unknown.

Crime scene personnel processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to the Malindi Sub-County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing.

Elsewhere, police in Nyamache Sub-County, Kisii County, are investigating the sudden death of a 29-year-old woman who was found lifeless in her matrimonial home on Wednesday evening.

Preliminary investigations established that at around 8:00 p.m. on June 3, the man’s husband found his wife of two months, Abunda Edina Nyaboke, lying dead on their bed.

Officers who examined the scene confirmed the woman’s death and found her body lying in a supine position on the bed. Police reported that there were no visible physical injuries on the body.

Investigators also recovered four tablets of cetirizine medication that were found next to the deceased.

The scene was processed and documented by investigators before the body was moved to Ichuni Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to establish the cause and circumstances surrounding the death. Results of the autopsy are expected to shed more light on the incident.
