Nairobi Welcomes World Leaders for Eye Health Conference Focused on Universal Access


The Ministry of Health is hosting a major global conference in Nairobi starting today, bringing together leaders, policymakers, innovators, development partners, and eye health experts to accelerate progress toward universal access to eye care by 2030.

The event is expected to attract more than 500 delegates and will feature over 130 speakers from 38 countries, focusing on strengthening eye health systems, innovation, workforce development, financing, and improving access to quality eye care services.

The conference provides a critical platform for stakeholders to share knowledge and collaborate on strategies aimed at achieving universal eye health coverage,” organizers said.

The official opening ceremony is scheduled for June 5, 2026.

The conference, dubbed 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE, is hosted by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and supported by the Bloomberg Philanthropies Vision Initiative.

It is co-hosted by the Ministry of Health, Christian Blind Mission (CBM), The Fred Hollows Foundation, GoodVision, and Sightsavers.

Organizers emphasized the importance of partnerships in addressing global eye health challenges, noting, “Collaboration across sectors is essential in ensuring equitable access to eye care services and reducing avoidable blindness worldwide.”
