New details: Two arrested as police hunt suspect in alleged online exposure of Marion Naipei

Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the alleged recording and online exposure of a 22-year-old woman, identified as Marion Naipei, in a case that has sparked public outrage and renewed debate on cyberbullying and digital abuse.

According to authorities, the young woman was allegedly recorded without her consent by a man she had been in a relationship with for about a year.

The suspect reportedly promised to take her to the United States, a claim investigators say was used to gain her trust. The private content was later allegedly shared on social media, exposing the victim locally and internationally.

The two suspects—a woman and a man—are currently being processed at Buruburu Police Station.

Police said the main suspect, identified as James Apande, remains at large, with efforts underway to trace and arrest him.

The case has drawn condemnation from Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, who met the victim and pledged support as she pursues justice through legal channels.

“This is unacceptable and constitutes cyberbullying and abuse,” Mosiria said, describing the alleged actions as a gross violation of human dignity and privacy.

“As a father of two daughters, I understand the deep trauma such incidents cause. Exposing someone’s sister, mother or daughter is degrading and completely unacceptable in any society,” he added.

Mosiria said his office would work closely with law enforcement and other relevant authorities to ensure accountability for those responsible, while also offering support to the victim.

He urged members of the public to respect the dignity and safety of others, particularly in the use of social media platforms.

Human rights advocates have echoed the call for justice, warning that the non-consensual sharing of intimate images is a serious offence that can have long-lasting psychological and social consequences for victims.

Police have encouraged anyone with information that could assist in locating the main suspect to come forward. Authorities also urged victims of similar abuse to report cases promptly to enable swift action.

As investigations continue, the case has reignited calls for stronger enforcement of laws against online harassment and exploitation, and for greater public awareness on digital ethics and consent.
