A police officer was found dead along the roadside on the Manyatta-Kianjokoma road in Embu County on Saturday, December 28.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death, with initial reports suggesting either a hit-and-run incident or potential foul play.
The deceased officer, identified as 35-year-old Collins Wafula, was stationed at the Embu North Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) headquarters.
Embu North Police Boss Benjamin Kiprono confirmed that Wafula had been seen leaving an end-of-year party at the DCC offices earlier in the evening.
Reports indicate that he was heading toward Kianjokoma and later joined a group at a local bar for drinks.
His whereabouts after that remain unclear, and the next time he was seen was when his lifeless body was discovered by a passerby in the Kavutiri area.
The passerby immediately alerted the authorities.
“It is not yet clear whether this was a hit-and-run incident or if the officer was murdered elsewhere and his body dumped on the road,” Kiprono said.
He urged residents who may have information that could help with the investigation to come forward.
As investigations continue, the officer’s body was transferred to the mortuary, pending a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Kiprono and his team are focusing on piecing together Wafula’s movements and gathering more details from the area surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Mbita, Homabay County, another police officer collapsed and died under unclear circumstances.
The constable, stationed at the Sena Police Station, had been on duty and appeared to be in good health before the sudden collapse.
Colleagues who were with him reported that he seemed fine until he unexpectedly fell ill.
His body was moved to the mortuary, where further investigations will take place, including an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Both incidents have raised concerns within the police force, and authorities are working diligently to uncover the truth behind the deaths.
