Several passengers are feared dead following a collision between two Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) along the Murang’a-Kenol Highway.
The crash occurred early Monday morning in the Wanjii area of Murang’a County, involving a Murang’a Shuttle and a Nakkons Sacco PSV.
Photographs from the scene show the aftermath of the devastating accident, with twisted metal from both vehicles scattered across the highway.
Among those involved in the crash were members of the Mwai Kibaki Hospital staff, who were traveling in the Nakkons Sacco matatu from Nairobi to Othaya.
The injured passengers have been rushed to Murang’a Hospital for specialized care. As of the latest reports, the exact number of casualties and the cause of the crash remain unclear.
This accident comes at the tail end of the festive season, a time when many are returning to their workplaces.
The holiday period has already seen several accidents, with one of the most tragic occurring on December 23 along the Narok-Mai Mahiu highway.
In that incident, two trailers collided in separate accidents, resulting in eight fatalities.
The first crash involved a Narok Line matatu, a Premio, and a bus, claiming the lives of three matatu passengers.
Moments later, another truck struck a Prado and a bodaboda, leaving five more people dead, including three from the Prado and two pillion passengers.
On January 3, a further tragedy struck along the Eldoret-Kitale Highway in the Soy area, where a collision between a Great Rift Shuttle and a lorry resulted in nine deaths, including that of the PSV driver.
